Day 12: Gubbio - Marsciano (70km - 4:03)
Tuesday 4 May
It rained continuously from midnight last night. We were up at 07h00, packed very carefully so that any leaks wouldn't compromise our luggage (and especially Nicole's new jacket!) and put our rain covers on the panniers.
Our amended route meant that instead of heading south to Assisi, we'd start making our way south-west to cut some mileage out of tomorrow's stage. Marsciano was the new destination. A town about which we knew absolutely nothing, which probably meant that there were no tourist-worthy attractions there.
The rain seemed to stop as we left Gubbio and we had a short sunny stretch just before Perugia. A few detours saw us eventually find our way through Perugia and we got onto the road to Marsciano.
Unfortunately it really started to pour for the last 5km into Marsciano and we arrived there wet and cold. The only hotel we found seemed to be closed for renovations but luckily we found an affitacamere nearby. This was simply a room in someone's block of flats. It was a nice size and had a private bathroom, so were were very happy. We were dripping wet when we arrived but they didn't seem to mind.
As usual we found a pizza place for dinner. Nothing special, this one, but the pizza was ok. Nothing else to report on in this town, except that the Giro d'Italia was coming through here in a few days time.
