Awesome!!!
March 8th, 2004The Cape Epic 2004 has come and gone! What an unbelievable experience. We covered some 785km in 8 days through all imaginable weather conditions and through terrain ranging from tarmac to rutted dirt roads, to mud and singletrack.
Despite Kevin suffering from quite a bad chest-cold for the last 2 days, we managed to come home in 33rd position overall. Not bad for two part-timers
- total time 37 hours 56 minutes and 33 seconds.
The entire race organisation was absolutely superb and the whole Cape Epic team deserve a huge hand for putting on a fantastic show.
A race report will be coming soon. Watch this space!

Glad to hear you completed the race a couple yers back. Any advice for a new enduro rider entering this event?

I think probably the most important thing in your preparation is to log sufficient miles. You need to be very comfortable being in the saddle for 6 or 7 hours a day.
That was a factor in my pulling out of the ‘05 event - I simply hadn’t done enough back-to-back long rides on the weekends.
In ‘04 we did several 5-6 hour back-to-back rides, and we rode as many hills as we could find during those rides. We found that eventually we weren’t feeling any after-effects from a single 6 hour ride, and could ride the next day as hard as the previous one.

Thanks for the advice. There are plans for some 5-7day training camps doing the types of miles you are speaking about. Seems these are the big focus. Thanks again.
