A few days ago my 365, take-one-photo-a-day series stopped. On day 139 I realised that I was posting images that I wasn’t happy with, just for the sake of keeping the series going.
Life is too short to be taking, and posting, crap photos. My time is at a premium and I’d rather focus my energies on those opportunities where I can get great images, than scrounging around the house looking for my shot of the day.
Not that I haven’t gotten a lot out of 365. When I started out, it was because I realized I wanted to take more photos, and get more into my photography. I achieved that and a lot more…
Along the way I’ve bought a new camera, new lenses and lighting gear. I’ve bought many books on photography and completed another photo course. I even went on an overseas holiday exclusively to take photos. But the biggest development was realising people might pay me to take photos. It certainly wasn’t a plan when I started, but over the last few weeks I’ve been taking steps to make that a reality.
2010 will be the year to turn my photography into something that pays for itself. I’m really enjoying it and I’m really excited.

I hear you about the quality vs quantity, I’m hoping to get through this year though.
Glad it’s made a difference to your photography though
Nick – I took exactly the same decision a few weeks back and for the same reasons..
Hi Jacques. Thx, to you and yours too!
At this stage it certainly isn’t the intention to make it full time, and I’m not necessarily sure that I’d want that anyway. I guess I’ll see what happens.
Hey Nick,
Happy to hear that your photography has taken the professional direction! If it starts taking more of your time and becomes a solid income will you take it on full time?
Cheers,
-Jacques
Merry Christmas and a Picturesque New Year to you and your family!
