I don’t get into the studio much. Generally I like the variety and context that one gets when shooting on location, but recently I spent some time in the studio with Dutch dancer and model Tresor Nzita Fatima. He needed some fresh images for his portfolio and I needed to brush up my lighting skills.
These are some of the results…

love the light and clarity in these!
These are sick! I LOVE the dancing photo – probably because there’s no way in heck I could ever pull off that move. Your lighting is awesome in these. Well done!
Wow, nice work! Cannot believe the angles on the one where he’s jumping off using one hand!
Excellent set. #4 hurts my wrist just to look at. ;-)
How did he do that one pose?!? You captured some great action and wonderful intensity of the subject. Amazing!
Super cool shots Nick.
Loving that last one, great lighting, and great model too.
Fantastic lighting!
Great job! Love the lighting!!
Great first shot, he looks like a pretty flexible guy!
Nice one Nick! Studio lighting still scares me but at least I have a friend who knows what he is doing. I’m sure he was very happy with the results. I’m pretty sure I could do that wrist move…going outside to try it now….
Haha Mark! Don’t hurt yourself now!
Love that second one! What a range of lighting here, awesome work!
Great lighting. I love the third one – a well-done portrait is a thing of art.
Nice lighting, not an easy thing to do! And, sick moves!
Hi Nick, not bad for braving the challenges of a studio shoot. Just two things I noticed if you don’t me throwing some crit in here.. your color rendering, it’s best to stick with one look and not deviate too much.. your first two pics color-photo rendering was to me the best looking out of the lot for this shoot. and then crops, one photo has a knee coming into picture, it’s not doing anything and just distracting and then the crazy one handed ghetto dance move, too much space below the hand and no space above the foot, gotta get that balance right, overall not too shabby :) keep practicing!
Thanks Eric ;)
I agree completely – that knee disappeared in the delivered edit, and the dance one was doubled in height.
