That holiday isn’t coming soon enough

December 9th, 2006

Having my great break in Thailand is all good and well, but it comes with an unfortunate side-effect…

All the work that I would normally be doing in the 2 weeks that I’m away, has to get done now. Even worse, there’s projects I need to complete before I go so that we don’t miss pre-Christmas deadlines. So right now I’m working evenings and weekends to get through the task-list. I’m even doing some programming to help the team, which is quite nice. I didn’t realise how much I missed it until I started up with it again.

Well, my afternoon cuppa’s finished. Time to get back to work!

Toy Run

November 27th, 2006

All bunny rabbits loaded and ready for action!Yesterday Kevin and I did the Toy Run on our scooters. Thousands and thousands of two-wheelers met up at Ratanga Junction for the procession to Maynardville. Several thousand more came through from Ottery.

There were a LOT of toys donated for the underprivileged. Quite an experience!

Some more pics here.

PS3 vs Wii

In a blatant rip-off of the Mac/PC ads, Nintendo has produced this fun ad for the new Wii -

Can’t wait till I get one!

No more traffic

October 2nd, 2006

I’ve had the scoot for a few months now, and I’m happy to announce that traffic has ceased to exist. No more sitting in my steel cage wasting time, no more congestion-induced frustration, no more complaining about the petrol price. The scooter is without doubt the best thing I’ve bought in the last year or two.

I can’t understand why everyone doesn’t drive one!?

Another bike in the garage

My grand Dink

A different kind of bike this time… a Kymco Grand Dink 250. Kymco has a knack for product-naming - I can tell people that I have a grand dink ;) .

“So what is it really?” I hear you ask. Its a big scooter. Something that won’t get intimidated by the traffic. Something that can hold 80km/h into the teeth of a howling South-Easter (well, I expect it to - I haven’t actually ridden in a howling S’Easter yet).

The dealer promises over 300km on its 12l tank, so I should save a bit on petrol. Also traffic is no longer an issue :)

A busy December

December 17th, 2005

Almost the end of December and its been really hectic round here. Done some cycling, but not nearly enough, and abandoned the last league event on 16 December.

The reason for the lack of time has been a rather disorganised office move. We planned to move at the beginning of December but Telkom decided that the soonest they could install ADSL was February (!). So all our furniture moved, but we couldn’t move ourselves into the office because we wouldn’t have been able to do any work.

So everybody was working from home. I had the server under the kitchen counter, and the laptop and another PC on top of it. Not a very tidy kitchen.

Luckily DT managed to get hold of a “contact” at Telkom who arranged our ADSL to be installed on 12 December. So we could all move in. But then there was a huge workload because of all the disorganisation created by working from home.
