Winter is a quiet time for weddings in Cape Town, so to keep the creative juices flowing and continue growing my skills I recently attended a great workshop called “The Next Level”, conducted by the experienced and talented Ian Mitchinson and Dror Eyal. Both these guys have been around the block, but they have very different approaches to shooting and processing.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the workshop, but we spent day one shooting on location and in the studio with some models. As you can see from my images, the location shots were my favourites. Day two looked at brand positioning, editing and workflow. The black & white image below is typical of my style, whilst the colour ones are more experimental. It was great trying out some new things in the editing process and I really like all of these images.

Have I mentioned how much I love film? :) Last week I got two rolls of film processed and scanned. One black and white (Ilford HP5) and the other colour (Kodak Portra 400NC). Here’s a few of my faves, the first one is my daughter.
