I love film

I have an old Nikon F3 that I use to shoot black & white film. It comes along to every shoot and I usually end up taking 1 or 2 pictures with it. No screen to check your image on, no instant feedback. Its like capturing a moment in a box, and only letting it out again a few months later. So its always a really pleasant surprise when I get a few images I like. Here’s a few shots from my last roll, which I collected today.

Santa paid me an early visit and gave me an SB-900 flash today.

I spent today on a lighting course with Robert Miller, where he showed exactly what speedlights are capable of. Apart from lots of theory, we also got to play with various lighting setups.

Great fun and I learnt a lot.

Strobist: 1 each SB900s 45 degrees behind subject left and right. 1 x SB900 into silver umbrella above subject at front. Triggered with Bowens wireless.

I spent the whole of this morning in the huge Prater park in Vienna. Lovely autumn colours, and hundreds of runners, bikers, riders, dogs and horses.

Which doesn’t explain why I’m posting a black & white image, with no runners, bikers, riders, dogs or horses.

I went out to Killarney racetrack today to catch the weekly cycle-race. Its a handicap race over one hour. As is normal, the wind was howling and the race was torn to pieces rather quickly. This is the lead group that managed to stay away until the finish.

No great photographs today, but I’ve always liked the interesting texture in these jeans. So I was playing around with Lightroom a bit to try and accentuate the texture.
