Currently the weather is rainy, which isn’t great, but hopefully the weathermen in Slovakia are as poor as the one’s in South Africa.

I’m doing a social documentary course at the Cape Town School of Photography and this weekend we’re heading out to the townships to spend some time with an NGO that does homecare for people that can’t help themselves.

This will be the first time I’ve used a film SLR since about 1987. I had to read the manual to figure out how to load the film :) Hope I can coax a few decent shots out of the old thing.

Today I sent my D90 off to Nikon to be repaired.

I bought 2 new lenses recently, a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 and a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8. I got the feeling they were front-focussing, and after shooting a test chart I saw I was right.

Out of interest then, I decided to test my other lenses, my Nikon 50mm f/1.4, Sigma 150mm Macro and Sigma 10-20mm. The 50 was also front-focussing, by the exact same amount as the two new sigmas. Deduction: the problem is with my camera body, not with the lenses.

(the 150mm Macro seemed to be spot on, but I always use manual focus for Macro, and the DOF of the 10-20 was too great to make any meaningful deductions)

So I expect to be without my Nikon for the next week or so. I’ll be posting pics shot with my tiny Fujifilm Z1.
